Conflict with the Golden Compass ... What is up with that?
Nov 30 2007, 8:48 AM EST I don't think we should be discounting The Golden Compass ... I mean sure it was writen by an athist (pardon spelling) who doesn't believe in God but still we shouldn't reject it ... Ok i can understand where some people are coming from but those people have good reason ... Others just do it because others are doing it but shouldn't we create our own view on it instead of what others tell us? Should we decide for ourselves? I don't understand the Church's view on this ... It sounds kind of rediculous to me... Do you find this valuable? |

Dec 3 2007, 2:51 AM EST it is being rejected because it is of black arts in witchcraft and what not. I can see where you are coming from that if you take it as the literature it is, fiction is fiction. But peoples minds don't operate the way we want them to so we need to look at movies and works such as these and reject them... I do agree with you it is a great work of script and from the writer standopint of me i have great respect for it. But the dominating catholic standpoint of me does reject the heriacy that takes place Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Conflict with the Golden Compass ... What is up with that?
Dec 5 2007, 9:48 PM EST I've heard many perspectives on the movie from various Catholics on all sides of this issue. Great points on all sides...but my big issue is the fact that when someone attends this movie, they are supporting the makers of the film and the prosperity of the author. If it was free, I'd say that we should go and make an informed decision. But since we "vote" in this society with our dollars, I personally will choose to not attend the film. Find a better cause to spend your hard-earned dollars instead of supporting the atheist author and the scientology-promoting leading woman. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Conflict with the Golden Compass ... What is up with that?
Dec 6 2007, 8:34 AM EST Well yes I can see that point of view too and yes I understand that ... and I am not going to the movie. I still think the view is a little rediculous ... I mean don't some of us go and watch Harry Potter in theaters? ... We are supporting J.K. Rowlings? ... Isn't that wrong too? .... But hey EVERYONE'S doing it right? ... The churches view on some of these movies I find out there ... It's not just the support of those people you mentioned Mike but it's all the other Atheist's and so on and such forth ... Still I can't see why you'd go to see Harry Potter when you won't go see the Golden Compass .... And yes I understand that In the end of the books two kids go to Kill God but still! Dec 7 2007, 8:53 PM EST Mucho amor, chica, but methinks someone needest to explain to thou how it lies: My brother read the book. He was shocked to read a rather blunt statement from the author in the novel, about how he wanted to "Kill God." The man is a nutcase, and I'd really appreciate it if we didn't supported the cracked dead one. Talk to Padre Jefe about it. In the theater, I don't think you were able to hear it, but he did say that the entire movie is blatantly anti-Catholic. Believe me, dear. I love you and I don't want you to waste nearly 10 bucks on a film that might do nothing for you but skew your views. Love ya hun! ~K Do you find this valuable? |

Dec 7 2007, 8:54 PM EST Okay, I mixed that up. What he said was that the novels were anti-Catholic. LOL. I still wouldn't support it though, if I were you.... See National Treasure with me instead! Do you find this valuable? |
